Amplifying the vision to #BuildBackBetter at the Rebuild Ukraine Conference 2024 in Warsaw

Last week we attended the 'Rebuild Ukraine Conference 2024' in Warsaw, a pivotal gathering of experts, policymakers, and stakeholders dedicated to driving sustainable reconstruction in Ukraine.

Amid the challenges and uncertainties surrounding the end of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, BPIE remains steadfast in its belief that the country’s reconstruction must be both sustainable and forward-looking. Central to our discussions was our set of six investment criteria, designed to guide the reconstruction process toward creating resilient, efficient, and sustainable communities.  We were honoured to have BPIE’s Volodymyr Vladyka and Michaella Panteli representing our ideas and engaging with stakeholders at the Warsaw conference, fostering meaningful discussions on building a resilient and sustainable future for Ukraine.

Event highlights

The conference was a showcase of collaboration and commitment, with numerous sessions and workshops shedding light on Ukraine’s green reconstruction journey.

A dynamic panel discussion brought together Dr. Ima Khrenova-Shymkina and Kjetil Tonning, who shared invaluable perspectives on integrating recovery and resilience into the rebuilding process.

Workshops and other insights

Sessions organised by the European Commission and a workshop on human capital in the energy sector, featuring Marko Stermšek, highlighted the significance of skilled labor and innovative practices in achieving successful outcomes.

Throughout the conference, a key takeaway was the importance of combining green reconstruction efforts with innovative financing models, ensuring that sustainability goals are met while addressing affordability and accessibility for all.

The event also provided an excellent opportunity to connect with Ukrainian and international companies and communities that are already leading the way with innovative approaches to reconstruction.

Looking ahead

The ideas and insights gathered in Warsaw have provided invaluable insights into BPIE’s ongoing work to support Ukraine in its work to #BuildBackBetter from our base in Brussels. We remain dedicated to supporting and researching the green reconstruction and recovery process in Ukraine, hoping that it delivers not only energy-efficient buildings but also a resilient and sustainable foundation for the country’s future.
