The fourth webinar of the Canada-EU exchange, hosted on June 15th, 2021, will focus on business and finance models that enable smart use of public and private funds and deliver energy efficiency renovations for both public and commercially owned buildings.

Key questions this webinar will address include:

  • How can available financing – both public and private – be linked to potential projects and beyond, to enable massive upscaling of the business models that deliver results on the ground?

Speakers:

Stuart Galloway – Chief Executive Officer, Energy Services Association Canada


Stuart is the CEO for Energy Services Association of Canada, a not-for-profit organization responsible for promoting performance based solutions for energy and infrastructure renewal initiatives, resulting in fiscally and environmentally responsible outcomes. Stuart is also Treasurer and Board member to the Clean Air Partnership. Prior to that he was the National lead for a Big 4 Capital and Infrastructure Project Solutions practice providing expertise for strategic capital planning, deal structuring and procurement advice derived from over 25 years in infrastructure and project finance. Stuart’s advisory roles include expertise of the UK, European and Canadian infrastructure markets, across both the public and private sectors.

Working predominantly on large or complex performance based projects and with over $15 billion capital worth of projects to his acclaim, Stuart has also delivered a number of cutting-edge pathfinders in Canada, leading the way for similar successful projects.
Stuart is both technically qualified and financially experienced with specialist expertise for delivering alternative, outcome focused project delivery models, financing structures, partnering arrangements and framework agreements. These advisory roles have been provided across a variety of industry sectors including health, municipalities, transportation, education, housing and IT.

Akua Schatz – Vice President, Advocacy and Market Engagement, Canada Green Building Council

Akua leads the development of policy to advance sustainable building practices at the Canada Green Building Council. She has championed research and programming demonstrating how energy benchmarking, the retrofit economy and net zero development can play a role in the de-carbonization of Canada. Over the course of her career she has honed a deep understanding of tools to drive change including the strategic use of evidence-based research to inform policy decisions and the identification of market-based solutions to accelerate industry uptake on retrofits.

Ioannis Orfanos – Partner, Arbitrage Real Estate

Ioannis is an experienced investment management and commercial advisory professional with a solid track record in real estate and green infrastructure projects.
In his current capacity, Ioannis works closely with international equity funds to assess and underwrite collateralized real estate in large NPL portfolios and to originate and manage value add real estate and (re)development investments. Ioannis is also providing expert advice on green finance mechanisms and strategies for sustainable value creation in property portfolios.

He has also been a Funding Expert Evaluator in the context of funding EU wide innovation programmes under Horizon 2020 related to energy efficiency finance, smart cities and green infrastructure development. Ioannis has also been a Sounding Board Expert in the Energy Efficiency Financial Institutions Group (EEFIG). In the recent past, he acted for 4 years as a commercial and corporate finance advisor to the UK government, at the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), where he led a team that provided advice on energy efficiency finance and clean growth investment matters.

In the past, Ioannis worked for Europa Capital in London, where he oversaw its real estate development investments in Europe. Prior, Ioannis worked for Deloitte in London, where he was involved in a variety of advisory assignments focusing on real estate occupation, management and capital programmes. Ioannis has also conducted corporate budgeting work for Citigroup in Rome. In the early stages of his career, Ioannis worked for a major infrastructure contractor.
Ioannis is a qualified Civil Engineer, he holds an MBA from ESCP Europe in Paris and an MSc in Construction Economics and Management from University College London.

Csaba de Csiky, Chairman & Managing Partner, EnerSaveCapital

Csaba is the Senior Partner and Chairman of EnerSaveCapital Sarl a Luxembourg energy saving advisory platform with the objective of mainstreaming sustainable energy assets for securitization purposes. In this role, he supports the financial structuring and development of investment portfolios of sustainable energy assets. 
Csaba sits on the boards of various companies, amongst them he holds the Chairmanship of Csiky & Co. Limited, a UK based sustainability focused investment banking boutique. Previously he was on the Board of Directors at Creditanstalt Securities and he is a founding member of the Budapest Stock Exchange. After studying Economics and Business Administration at the American College of Switzerland and later Barcelona, he started his professional career at Merrill Lynch A.G. before joining Prudential-Bache Inc. as Senior Vice President. 
Csaba is a Financial Expert Evaluator for the European Commission for the different programs under Horizon Europe and the Innovation Fund.
