[Webinar] Unveiling the new EU Building Stock Observatory – A practical guide

The EU Building Stock Observatory (BSO) has undergone the most substantial upgrade since its inception in 2016. In March 2024, the European Commission launched a new version that offers an improved user interface and more data availability. In this interactive webinar we will unveil the improvements of the BSO and how to use it. This upgrade includes a more advanced user experience, an increased dataset with additional indicators and a higher level of detail.

The EU Building Stock Observatory (BSO) has undergone the most substantial upgrade since its inception in 2016. In March 2024, the European Commission launched a new version that offers an improved user interface and more data availability.

In this interactive webinar we will unveil the main improvements of the EU BSO and showcase how to use it. These improvements include a new user interface offering advanced user experience, and an increased dataset with additional indicators and a higher level of detail.

What’s new?

The main improvements include an increased dataset with additional indicators and a higher level of detail and a new user interface that offers advanced user experience. Thanks to these changes, users can also customise data visualisations and compare different sets of data, making more combinations between available indicators possible.

Information about occupancy, tenancy type and social aspects related to energy poverty are some examples of what is included in this expanded data set.

With these major upgrades, this open-source web platform on building’s energy performance in the EU, is ready to become the central data hub on the European building stock, specifically under the new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

A user manual is also available on the BSO website providing guidance on how to use the tool and access data.

Led by partners GuidehouseBPIE (Buildings Performance Institute Europe)EURAC ResearchTU Wien and the Danish Energy Agency (DEA), in close coordination with DG ENER and DG DIGIT, the newly launched effort of the BSO is part of a wider development effort to ensure the BSO becomes Europe’s central hub for reliable data on buildings. The BSO development effort is funded through the European Commission’s LIFE programme, managed by CINEA (the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency).
