The EU and the US both committed to full society-wide decarbonization by 2050. Both have pledged to base the post-COVID economic recovery on green and sustainable solutions. The webinar: Finance for energy-efficiency in residential buildings – the process, is the third in a 5-part series taking place as part of the EU-US energy dialogue, focusing on building renovation and in such a green recovery. The webinar, taking place on Wednesday, October 20th 10-12 EST | 16-18 CEST, looked at the role of the financial sector in boosting energy efficiency investments and explored business models that link funds to projects. The sessions included a deep dive looking at the specifics of how financing for energy efficiency projects works in practice.

Speakers:

Isidoro Tapia, Senior Economist Energy Efficiency, European Investment Bank

Isidoro Tapia is a Senior Economist in the Energy Efficiency Division of the European Investment Bank. He holds a dual degree in Law and Economics from Carlos III University of Madrid and a MBA from Wharton Business School of Pennsylvania. Before joining the EIB, he worked as a member of the cabinet of the Secretary for Energy in the Spanish Government, and was Secretary General of IDAE, the Spanish National Agency for renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Davide Cannarozzi, Chief Executive Officer and Founder, GNE Finance

Trained as an industrial engineer in Turin, Italy, Davide holds an MBA from ESADE in and has executive training in Project Financing from London Business School. Davide founded GNE Finance, a private capital financing solutions provider, to transform the home and building renovation industry. Prior to that Davide served as CFO of Enertika, an ESCO headquartered in Spain where he designed, promoted, implemented and managed a new business model in the energy sector.

Michele Russo, Founder and Chairman, Epta Prime

Michele holds a degree in Management and Economics “cum Laude” from the Luiss University in Rome (Italy). Winner of a Fulbright grant and Master of Science in Management at M.I.T. (Sloan School). From 1989 to 2017 Professor of “State Accountancy” and later “Markets and Regulation” at Luiss University and at the Post-Doctoral School for legal professions.
He has an outstanding management experience in several industries where he held positions in general management, strategic and financial planning, internationalization, joint venturing and marketing.
From 2004 to 2015 Michele has worked for a primary banking group where he has been in charge of the origination of Fixed Income and Capital Market deals.
Currently partner at Epta Prime and consultant to the department of economic planning of the Italian Prime Minister’s Office.

Karyn Sper, Director, Green and Healthy Housing Financing, Fannie Mae Multifamily

Karyn Sper is the Director of Fannie Mae’s Multifamily Green and Healthy Housing Financing Business. In that capacity, she focuses on developing and implementing financing products that increase the health and sustainability of the country’s multifamily housing stock.  Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Ms. Sper spent five years in commercial real estate loan underwriting and business development at MMA Realty Capital, and eight years in environmental consulting, where she specialized in solid waste management and pollution prevention.
 
Ms. Sper holds an MBA in Real Estate and Finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Earth and Planetary Sciences from Washington University in St. Louis.

Holmes Hummel, Executive Director, Clean Energy Works


Dr. Holmes Hummel founded Clean Energy Works to accelerate inclusive investments in building energy upgrades, as described in Building Decarbonization Coalition report: Towards an Accessible Financing Solution.  Dr. Hummel has led Clean Energy Works to win four international searches for breakthrough climate strategies, including endorsement by the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance.  Previously, Dr. Hummel served as the Senior Policy Advisor in the Department of Energy’s Office of Policy & International Affairs from 2009-2013 and founded the DOE’s first agency-wide finance working group. Dr. Hummel holds a doctorate degree from Stanford University for interdisciplinary research on energy technology scenarios that achieve 100% clean energy for all.

Peter Ludwig, Senior Manager of Market Engagement, Connecticut Green Bank

Peter is the Senior Manager, Market Engagement at the Connecticut Green Bank. In this role, he helps contractors, building owners and other stakeholders develop clean energy financing projects.
Prior to the Green Bank, Peter was Director of Energy Efficiency Programs at Elevate Energy. He developed and led award-winning energy efficiency retrofit programs in affordable housing. These programs delivered energy efficiency improvements to over 35,000 homes and created 500 new jobs over 10 years. Peter was selected as 2014 Young Professional of the Year by the Association of Energy Engineers. Peter is currently enrolled in the Financing and Deploying Clean Energy Certificate program offered by the Yale Center for Business and the Environment.
Peter received his B.A in Earth and Environmental Studies from Wesleyan University in 1999, and his Master of Environmental Science from the Yale School of the Environment in 2018. At Yale, Peter completed master’s research exploring the materiality, culture, and political economy of Central Javanese musical instrument makers in Indonesia.
Peter is excited to help the Connecticut Green Bank fight climate change and increase investment in low-moderate income communities across Connecticut.
