BPIE Workshop II – Technical requirements and financing options for building renovation

This was the second workshop organised by BPIE in Poland as part of the same project. It took place June 8 in Warsaw.

Following the launch of the report Financing building energy performance improvement in Poland and the success of a first meeting held in January 2016, the workshop Wymagania techniczne i możliwości wsparcia dla termomodernizowanych budynków/Technical requirements and financing options for building renovation saw the participation of multiple stakeholders and high-level speakers delivering various and interesting solutions in the field of financing and technical requirements for building renovation in the country.

The workshop was attended by leading experts at national and European levels:

  • Oliver Rapf, Executive Director of BPIE;
  • Anita Oleksiak, Director of the Department of Construction in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction;
  • Szymon Firląg, BPIE Poland;
  • Dan Staniaszek, Senior Expert BPIE;
  • Marek Zaborowski, Vice President at Institute for Environmental Economics
  • and many others.

The workshop was moderated by Dr Andrzej Kassenberg, President of the Institute for Sustainable Development.

This workshop focused on finding new and innovative solutions to boost the energy efficiency of existing buildings in Poland and tackle the key challenges preventing their renovation. The working groups involving the participants turned out to be fundamental in having a fruitful discussion on how to increase the renovation rate in Poland. Many solutions (technical requirements and financing options) were proposed: a better link between all stakeholders involved, the use of a clear integrated operational model involving a step-by-step renovation but most important, communicating all the benefits in order to raise awareness on the fact that building renovation is not a huge cost, but rather a huge investment to reach great benefits.

The workshop also anticipated the release of a BPIE report on the Polish building stock, expected in September.
