ZEBRA2020: recommendations to accelerate the market uptake of nZEBs

The ZEBRA2020 project focuses on tracking the market transition to nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (nZEBs) to derive recommendations and strategies for the building industry and policy makers and to accelerate the market uptake of nZEBs. The project just came to an end and final results are available. BPIE was a partner.

The recast of European Directives, in particular the Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings and the Energy Efficiency Directive, offers a unique opportunity to move forward towards lower energy consumption and a strengthened use of renewable energy sources.

ZEBRA2020 collected information and data on the European building stock and gathered the opinion of building professionals about nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (nZEBs), Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and many other aspects linked to the building sector. Based on these sources, ZEBRA2020 developed the nZEB tracker, a brand new tool to estimate the nZEB market maturity, and pulled together many recommendations to foster the transition towards sustainability in the building sector.

We are delighted to share the final results of this three-years-running project.

Main findings are summarised in the report entitled Strategies for a nearly Zero-Energy Building market transition in the European Union. It becomes clear that more pronounced and ambitious measures than today are needed to reach the long-term EU climate and energy targets.
