The buildings sector’s crucial role in mitigating climate change is finally being recognised

A Buildings Day is being organised for the first time during COP21, on the 3rd of December 2015.

This year’s UNFCCC COP21 will feature the first ‘Buildings Day’, an event presenting how the building and construction sector can tackle climate change.

The current 30% of global CO2-emissions from the building and construction sector could rise to 50% by 2050. Therefore, the ‘Buildings Day’ will focus on public strategies and policies, finance and value chain solutions to reduce carbon emissions, and provide an opportunity to launch an alliance of organisations. The Global Buildings Performance Network (GBPN) is part of this alliance.

To underline the key role the buildings sector will play in the climate negotiations BPIE wrote an article for Friends of Europe.
